The Ottoman’s standing army in the late 18th century, and into the Napoleonic wars was highly developed, with a long established professional army consisting of trained musketeer infantry battalions, and its own artillery, engineering, medical and transport corps.
This small volume focuses on the formal Ottoman standing army in the Napoleonic era, examining key aspects of its army composition, the organisation of its paid regular troops used in campaigns, namely the various infantry organisations such as the janissary and the provincial government regiments; the cavalry, and the artillery.
The main coverage of this book is uniforms, insignia, and flags. The various chapters contain an extended study of the army, infantry, cavalry and artillery tactics used by Ottomans in the 18th century.
This book also contains a chapter on the Ottoman Danube river fleet.
The final section of this book covers a set of generic wargaming rules conversions intended for using an ottoman army during the 18th century, and the Napoleonic wars. The supplementary wargaming rules are intended for use with 25-28mm scale figures, and are written to fit within the historical rules systems currently popular in the wargaming community.
